The A380 returns on the 28th of October 2023 – in time for the winter timetable change. It will operate between Munich (Lufthansa’s A380 hub) and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Lufthansa is to introduce the type due to strong market demand. By reintroducing the A380 on this route, Lufthansa also brings its esteemed first-class cabin and service to Thailand, allowing more travel options for its passengers.
The airline configures its A380 in a four-class layout, with 8 First Class seats, 78 Business Class seats, 52 Premium Economy seats and 371 seats.

According to Anlee Do, General Manager Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines & the Mekong region, Lufthansa Group:
“We are increasing capacity between Thailand and Germany due to strong demand and are delighted to offer Thai passengers direct service to Munich aboard the ever-popular A380. We are the only airline group operating the A380 non-stop between Thailand and Europe and this signifies our strong commitment to the Thai market”
Building capacity as well as connections
Thailand is well served by the Lufthansa Group, with Lufthansa, Swiss International Airliens and Austrian Airlines all serving the country from their respective hubs of Munich, Zurich and Vienna.
In total, this will offer 21 flights a week between Thailand and Europe, offering travellers options on where they wish to travel to, as well as the extra capacity an Airbus A380 gives.
It seems Lufthansa is playing to the strengths of the Airbus A380 – in terms of capacity, but also as a hub-to-hub connector, allowing its passengers to fly to a hub, fly long haul on the A380 and connect to other regional flights at another hub.
And let’s face it – the Airbus A380 is popular with a lot of passengers – your author included.
