TAP Air Portugal has collaborated with Benamôr to offer a new amenity kit for its long-haul business class passengers.
The new amenity kit offers TAP passengers Benamôr’s high-quality hand creams. The kits also include earplugs, a toothbrush and toothpaste, socks and an eye mask.
With these new kits, there is a focus on sustainability, so the materials used are rPET (recycled polyethene terephthalate), produced from recycled plastic bottles and other PET waste. According to the airline, rPET is as good as virgin polyester – but requires fewer resources to produce and saves up to 60% of energy and more than 30% of CO2 emissions.
The partnership between TAP and Benamôr invites passengers to discover some of the iconic symbols of Portugal and Benamôr. They come in four different themes and colours, with the following descriptions:
- Laranjinha: the bitter orange was brought to Europe by the Portuguese during the Age of Discovery. Even today, in many parts of the world, the word “Orange” is synonymous with “Portugal”.
- Nata: one of the most popular and traditional Portuguese sweets. They are part of the country’s culture and one of the great gastronomic pleasures that Portugal offers the world.
- Gordíssimo: made from the Shea tree, which is found in the African savannahs, a reference to the Age of Discovery.
- Alecrim: rosemary is one of the most popular aromatic herbs in Portugal for its culinary, medicinal and cosmetic properties. This fragrant plant is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
Expanding regional partners
I think most of you know my opinion of amenity kits, with them being a chance for an airline to provide a memory for its passengers, whilst giving it a chance to show off a brand.
Tying up with local brands is a thing airlines can do to provide a showcase to those local brands, providing a good marketing entry point to international travellers, who could use this as a jumping point to explore.
I’m interested in the upscaleability of an amenity kit too – the use beyond the kit. Amenity kits have made good “tech bags” (perfect for cables, memory cards and so on), “medicines bags” and “mini makeup bags” (just enough to last a weekend to a bit beyond).
Heck, I’ve got classic United Airlines amenity kit bags from the early 2010s that make excellent SD Card/USB stick bags even today.
A little thought when it comes to bag design – both in terms of content and the life beyond the flight goes a long way. Hopefully, some of TAP Air Portugals amenity kits will see similar lives.
