Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (4th November)

04/11/2023 by Kevincm

It’s the end of another week, and as the nights draw in, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

a crowd of people walking down a street with lights over them
Oh yes. The Frankfurt Christmas Market kicked off in Birmingham this week. Wonderful. I promise no more of this market… until at least early December.
Maybe.

SNAPSHOTS

The first batch of Snapshots from my Chicago Trip. Some more over the next few days.

  • American Airlines 99 London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare (MAIN CABIN EXTRA)
  • Crowne Plaza O’Hare (Rosemont)
  • Hyatt Regency O’Hare, Rosemont

Routes and Networks

  • Qantas to connect Perth to Paris – Another direct Europe to Austraila Link
  • Etihad commences operations out of the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International – Expect more airlines to move in.

Passenger Experience

  • TAP Air Portugal unveils its new Business Class Amenity Kits – partnering with Benamôr to offer a new kit
  • Delta Air Lines selects Hughes In-Flight Connectivity – A big win for Hughes – whilst allowing the Regional Delta fleet to connect
  • Finnair launches free in-flight messaging in Europe… I had an early preview – It’s not too bad— shame about the cuts around the rest of the airline.

New Aircraft News

  • Brussels Airlines takes delivery of their first Airbus A320neo – One of Five for Brussels Airlines.
  • Air Niugini formally signs for the Airbus A220 family – Up to 11 on the way

The Business of Aviation

  • Amsterdam Schiphol Airport jacks up airport charges by 15% – Wonderful. Combined with other tit-for-tat moves, this could get fun, fast.

Rail

  • Plans to close Rail ticket offices halted in England – A positive move after the His Majesties government tried to ram the station closures down people’s throats. No doubt, they’ll try again with some very poor spin. They always do.

Pretty Pictures

  • All Nippon Airways Boeing 777-300ER arriving at Chicago O’Hare International

 Next Week

I’m deep in writing the current Chicago Trip Report – and when I mean deep, I mean 25 pages deep of original written content… so far… and there’s more to come out my mind, onto the electronic page. There’s also a couple of snapshots to come too.

On top of that, we’ll be continuing our usual look at the world among us, with news, updates, route launches and other fun things that pass through my desk.

Until next week, Happy Landings!
