This new commercial partnership will facilitate business relations between the two nations and increase tourist flows.
The agreement will provide more travel options for customers of both ITA Airways and Korean Air, who will benefit from connectivity via Rome Fiumicino and Seoul Incheon – the two airlines’ hubs.
the new codeshare will go into effect on the 21st of November, with Korean Air applying a KE flight code on 11 Italian domestic destinations and five international connections from Rome Fiumicino airport. These include:
Italian Domestic
- Bologna
- Venice
- Turin
- Trieste
- Genoa
- Bari
- Brindisi
- Florence
- Catania
- Palermo
- Naples
International Destinations
- Madrid
- Barcelona
- Athens
- Cairo
- Munich
Meanwhile, ITA Airways will apply its legacy AZ code to services operated by Korean Air. These include the following Italy – South Korea flights:
Korean Air Boeing 787-9, Image, Economy Class and Beyond
- Rome Fiumicino – Seoul Incheon
- Milan Malpensa – Seoul Incheon
Two domestic services will be on the codeshare too including:
- Pusan
- Daegu
For those who want to go beyond South Korea, the codeshare will be extended to four Japanese destinations:
- Osaka
- Nagoya
- Fukuoka
- Sapporo
The two airlines are also already working to expand their cooperation to offer their customers further travel options.
Forging its own path
ITA Airways continues to forge its own path – with the airline having 32 codeshare agreements, along with eight interline agreements. The airline is a member of SkyTeam at the moment (although in the longer term, that could change), allowing customers of both airlines to take advantage of appropriate mileage earning opportunities for those who are members of an appropriate SkyTeam programme, along with the lounge opportunities that are offered.
We’ll have to see how that path goes – and what its new part-owners may do in the future.
Codeshare flights go on sale on the 21st of November, from www.ita-airways.com, and www.koreanair.com, through your travel agent or GDS distribution point.
