Codeshares are still a thing with Etihad as it activates a new codeshare with TAP Air Portugal.
This partnership will provide Etihad’s customers with easy one-stop access to a variety of destinations across the TAP network. These include cities such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil, as well as San Francisco and Miami in the USA.
It also covers destinations such as the African resort island of São Tomé Madeira, Malaga, Seville, and Valencia in Europe, as well as Marrakech and Dakar in Africa.
The codeshare lets passengers streamline their journeys by making a single booking with one check-in process at the start and the added convenience of having their baggage seamlessly transferred to their final destination.
The agreement follows the start of Etihad’s non-stop services to Lisbon earlier this year and enables both Etihad and TAP customers to connect to each other’s network through Frankfurt and London Heathrow.

In-flight… now
Both Etihad Airways and TAP Air Portugal have moved quickly to implement this codeshare, with it announced and activated on the 5th of December.
It’s been a busy year for Etihad with codeshares, with many announced including Air France-KLM and Scandinavian Airlines, as well as securing interline agreements with many airlines.
Whilst it might not have the equity alliance it had in the past, it’s being a bit more logical with its partnerships – with codeshares seeming to do a lot of the heavy lift that the previous alliance achieved, but at a much lower cost.
A much more sustainable strategy, to put it mildly.
