Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (23rd December)

23/12/2023 by Kevincm

As we close in on the festive week, it’s time to take stock, look back and digest the world in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Selfridges, Birminingham
Selfridges, Birmingham. The Disco balls add a look.

Trip report – Older, Yes. Wiser? No.

It’s time for a new trip report, with two segments this week. Look out for a few more segments next week.

  • A Day Trip to Switzerland with British Airways
  • Coach Fun to Heathrow Airport

Routes and Networks

  • Singapore Airlines to fly to London Gatwick – Why fly to one London airport, when you can fly to two?
  • Iberia plans to return to Tokyo for Winter 2024 – Hmm. That timing is a little odd.
  • Virgin Atlantic adds capacity to holiday routes – Increases to Dubai, Maldives and Barbados.

New Aircraft news

  • Azul signs for an additional four Airbus A330-900neo  – More NEOS for Azul
  • Lufthansa Group goes shopping for narrow-body aircraft… and buys some very different aircraft – And thus, Lufthansa Group goes back to Boeing.
  • easyJet inks 157 aircraft deal with Airbus – with 100 options
  • Transavia Airlines takes delivery of its first Airbus A321neo – First of many A320neo family aircraft for Transavia and KLM

Passenger Experience

  • Icelandair selects Panasonic Avionics Astrova IFE

Rail prices

  • Regulated Rail fares set to rise by 4.9% in March 2024

Pretty pictures

  • Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER at Chicago O’Hare International

Next week

We’re going to be taking things a little easier next week, as Christmas Day is a Monday this year, and thus I’m taking a little bit of the break in the foreground.

We’ll be continuing the Switzerland Trip Report, as well as anything a little interesting that pops along (although, Christmas week tends to be a quiet week for news).

Finally, we’ll have a traditional “end of year” wrap-up, which I’ve got to start writing.

Until then, Happy festive landings!
