2023 has been… an odd year for me, in many respects. But it’s time to look at my flights over the year and do some numbers. Because we do love numbers in this industry.
Welcome to Part 3 of Review 2023… my year in numbers.
- Part 1 – Thinner seats and so on
- Part 2 – My year in Passenger Experience
- Part 3 – Kevin in Numbers
My Flights for 2024 – 11 segments in total.

I’d say this year has been more “task-focused” compared to previous years, with only two of the trips “for the hell of it”. The day trips abroad are still a thing, however much it annoys UK Border agents.
The trip reports for those who missed them:
- Back in the Groove – To Chicago with British Airways, in Premium Classes, along with a surprise – LHR-ORD, ORD-LHR
- Back to Innovation, Back to Hamburg – To Aircraft Interiors Expo with British Airways – LHR-HAM, HAM-LHR
- Doughnuts on the Mound 4 – Back to Ireland, Back to Donuts with Ryanair – BHX-DUB, DUB-BHX
- Indirect Travel Fun with American Airlines and Finnair (Oh Yes, Chicago) – LHR-ORD, ORD-HEL-LHR
- Older Yes, Wiser, No – A Swiss Adventure – LHR-ZRH, BSH-LHR
Breaking down the numbers:
Segment Lenght
Long Haul | 4 |
Short Haul | 7 |
With only two trips to Chicago this year, and not going to Asia, these numbers are sadly more than accurate, along with the write-off that was the summer plans, when news hits.
Class of travel
Long Haul Business | 1 |
Long Haul Premium Economy | 1 |
Long Haul Economy | 2 |
Short Haul Business | 2 |
Short Haul Economy | 5 |
I lucked out this year, with British Airways giving me an upgrade to Club World for a segment. Otherwise, the recliner seat has been my friend for flights where it reclines.
And trust me, Ryanair seats don’t recline.
Equipment Count
Airbus A380 | 2 |
Airbus A320 | 4 |
Airbus A321 | 1 |
Airbus A330-300 | 1 |
Boeing 737-800 | 2 |
Boeing 787-9 | 1 |
The biggest of the biggest birds takes the wide-body win, whilst the Airbus A320ceos seems to be the aircraft I’ve been friends with.
Airports
Heathrow for its sins is still the most used airport for me for 2024, with four out of the five trips I took departing from the hub. Birmingham Airport – as much as it is near enough down the road from me, oneworld connectivity remains limited (although Qatar Airways returning gives additional long-haul connectivity).
Towards 2024
As I head into 2024, the coming years flying looks like it’s heading in one direction – and as a Vtuber or five would say “Number go up”.
One trip is almost set to go, with another two trips deep into the planning stages.
I hope to bring you along for some of these trips, be it through the blog, social media, the newsletter, carrier pigeon and so on.
Thank you for being part of my adventures. See you next year!
