Into Zurich
Older. Yes, Wiser? No.

Into Zurich

Arriving at the terminal, I got out of the jetbridge and started to follow the signs to the exit. Because, from what I could tell, we had arrived at the far end of the terminal.

Thus began the 20-minute walk, finding my way around Dock E. Yes, it’s a straight line, but I was distracted by aircraft.

Who can blame me?

Down we go.

I decided that I wanted to head into the city as well, so I made haste towards the transit system, with Hedi welcoming us to Switzerland, with the cows mooing.

Then came the first of two long immigration queues – with the Swiss international visitors queue having four people clearing a lot of international flights.

Wunderbar. That would be 20 minutes of my life I would like back.

Thankfully the agent was friendly, took my passport and wished me happy birthday. No questions why I was in Switzerland – he had worked it out, and let me on my way.

With that, it was time to run the risk of the final duty-free shop and out into the public area.

I had planned at this point for heavy winter wear – or as heavy as I go, with some extra t-shirt layers. Turned out I didn’t, as it was slightly warmer than at home.

I’ll take that any day of the week, whilst what snow there was was in small piles. That disappointed me, as I wanted some lovely pictures of planes in the snow taking off.

That plan would end up in the bin faster than I could imagine.

I headed into the Shopping plaza that contains the Zurich Airport Train and brought my day pass for trains, buses and trams – where cities have decent transit options, it is important to use and abuse them as much as possible.

I didn’t know the Bajorian Alliance for Global Unity had an outpost here.

I found an InterCity train was about to depart – so I headed down and caught to Zurich Hbf, with a double-deck Bombardier TwinDexx train (or what SBB brands LD double-decker, what others call TwinDexx Swiss Express).

I just didn’t know how familiar I would become with these double-decker trains.

With a smooth ride into Zurich Hapthbhanhof, I arrived in one of the tunnelled segments. I took my time heading up and to the grand station that is Zurich Hbf.

Now normally, at this point, I’d go onto a full exploration missive. But I’m breaking this into two segments, as I’ve taken out my new Canon EOS R50 that I’ve been playing with on and off. Let’s see how it does as a travel camera.

How does it do?

More Experiments with the Canon R50.
