SAS President & CEO, Anko van der Werff said:
“Through an agreement with Delta Air Lines, passengers can continue their journey on other Delta-served destinations out of Atlanta.
This development means an expanded offering for SAS passengers, who can look forward to reaching several new and exciting destinations across the Southern USA, Caribbean, and Latin America, all conveniently accessible from Atlanta,”
Getting cosy with SkyTeam
With SAS planning to launch Atlanta, it creates a direct link into the heart of the Delta network, as well as one of the major nodes of the SkyTeam network. Its also a sign that the Air France-KLM money is having some pull on how the airline is going to operate in future.
Given that SAS used to use United Airlines for US Domestic capacity, codeshares are going to be vital to kick-start the route to drive passenger traffic – and whilst the airline is confident that can be delivered during the summer, winter is going to be a tougher sell.
We’ll have to see how SAS aligns itself to both Air France-KLM’s investment needs, as well as its possible alliance membership.
