At Wings India 2024, Akasa Air announced a follow-on order with Boeing for a follow-on order for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The follow-on order covers 150 more aircraft, made up of the 737-10 and 737-8-200.

The exact splits of the sub-types have not been disclosed at the time of publication. Akasa Air will use the 737 MAX family to expand its domestic and international network in the coming years, with a delivery stream through to 2032
In 2021, Akasa Air placed its initial order of 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which was followed up with an order of 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in June 2023. This new deal takes the airline’s order book to a total of 226 aircraft. Akasa Air currently operates a fleet of 22 aircraft and will receive deliveries of a total of 204 aircraft over eight years, with the airline currently serving 18 destinations Both 737 MAX variants will provide Akasa Air with added capacity and range on new and existing routes This order was finalised in December 2023 and was listed as unidentified on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website.

A push for growth
It seems Akasa Air is pushing for growth, as it seeks to fill in gaps that other airlines have vacated. With an order book of over 200 aircraft in less than 2 years, it’s a rapid growth for the airline.
It’ll be interesting to see the airline’s international aspirations, as well as its planned domestic growth.
