Breeze Airways continues to expand, with the airline disclosing it is to add a further 10 Airbus A220 aircraft to its fleet.
The airline will order 10 additional A220-300 aircraft (the larger variant of the Airbus A220), bringing the airline’s total firm order for the aircraft type to 90 of the type.
This order will make Breeze the third largest customer worldwide for the A220.
Breeze took delivery of its first Airbus A220 in December 2021 and is operating 21 of the type aircraft (as of the end of January 2024) throughout the United States. Breeze also announced it will be using an all-A220 fleet for its commercial operations by the end of 2024.
Currently, the fleet is a mixture of Airbus A220-300, along with Embraer E190 and Embraer E195, with the Embraers to be retained for charter work.
Breeze offers a two-class configuration onboard their A220 aircraft, with either 126 or 137 seats aboard their aircraft, offering Breeze Accent (their business class product) in a 2-2 layout and economy class in a 2-3 layout, along with connectivity from Viasat.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, Airbus said:
“Thanks to its world class performance capabilities, the A220 is the perfect aircraft to help Breeze achieve its goal to provide nonstop service between underserved routes across the United States,”
“The aircraft offers efficient operations and an outstanding passenger experience, all while operating with the world’s lowest small single-aisle carbon footprint and a lower noise footprint in the communities where it flies. This additional order from Breeze is a strong endorsement for the value and opportunities offered by this latest generation aircraft.”
Breezing Along
It seems the Airbus A220 is offering Breeze Airways the flexibility it needs to operate from coast to coast whilst targeting secondary destinations that may not be viable with larger aircraft, or markets that are underserved by some other carriers.
Thus, long and thin routes are a commercial possibility.
It seems with a mixture of delivery slots and timing, Breeze Airways has decided to go all-in on the Airbus A220 as its primary aircraft. With 21 delivered so far, there’s plenty more to come for the airline as it targets those routes.
