Boarding Priority can be pretty important these days, as overhead bin space remains a premium onboard an aircraft. Virgin Atlantic is enhancing benefits for its Flying Club Red Tier to help, whilst improving the passenger experience.
Flying Club Red members will receive a new boarding benefit, which will allow them to board their flights ahead of other customers travelling in Economy Classic and Economy Light.
The new boarding benefit is available from (14th March 2024), across any Virgin Atlantic-operated service throughout its global network.
Virgin Atlantic boarding priority commences with customers who need a little more assistance, including those with young children. Priority boarding is then given to Upper Class and Gold Card members, followed by Premium then Economy Delight. Virgin Atlantic Red members will now be able to board from this point, ahead of the remaining customers in the Economy cabin.
We will now board in groups…
The full order boarding order is:
- Group 1 – Virgin Atlantic Upper Class, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold
- Group 2 – Virgin Atlantic Premium, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Silver
- Group 3 – SkyTeam Elite Plus, Air France / KLM Flying Blue Platinum, Air France / KLM Flying Blue Gold, Delta Diamond Medallions, Delta Platinum Medallions, Delta Gold Medallions
- Group 4 – Economy Delight, SkyTeam Elite, Air France / KLM Flying Blue Silver, Delta Silver Medallions, Singapore Solitaire PPS Club, Singapore Krisflyer Elite Gold, Virgin Australia Velocity Club, Virgin Australia Velocity Platinum, Virgin Australia Velocity Gold
- Group 5 – Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Red

Anthony Woodman, Vice President Flying Club & CRM, Virgin Atlantic, commented;
“We are constantly enhancing our Flying Club programme so that our members receive the very best of Virgin Atlantic. Our Red Tier members already receive access to a world of earning and spending opportunities for their Virgin Points, and now our new boarding benefit provides an extra sweetener to the beginning of their journeys with us.”
A nudge towards loyalty
Sometimes all it takes is a small benefit for people to complete a signup process to get a benifit they haven’t had before. In the days that were luggage space can be constrained – even on a widebody flight, having those few extra minutes to get the space you need may be worthwhile.
Of course, once you do, you can earn Virgin Points on a flight, as well as through the airline’s partners including Delta, Air France and KLM plus the SkyTeam network, which you can spend later.
And once you get a taste of loyalty, if the programme works for you, if you fly more (and in the more expensive cabins), you can progress to Silver and Gold status.
Which, depending on your travel patterns may be a lot more important than Boarding Group 5.
