We might have finally climbed out of Winter, (or whichever false winter we’ve all recently encountered), but Finnair is planning for winter 2024 and summer 2025.
Let us dive in to see what’s new on the Finnair map, and what’s building in frequency.
Winter 2024
Finnair has updated its winter 2024 traffic programme, adding frequencies to Dallas, making it a year-round daily service (between 27th October 202 to 29th March 2025).
Finnair’s Dallas flights offer connections to American Airlines’ extensive network out of their Dallas hub.
Summer 2025
Whilst it might seem far in the future, this is the time airlines begin to add planned capacity between 30th March 2025 and 25th October 2025.
In summer 2025, Finnair will add frequencies to Tokyo Narita, offering thus daily flights to both Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita in summer 2025.
Additionally, Nagoya will get a third weekly frequency.
Finnair also introduces a new destination in Northern Norway, the town of Kirkenes, starting in summer 2025. Finnair will fly to Kirkenes from Helsinki via Ivalo three times a week, operated with a 68-seater ATR aircraft.
The new route serves Finnish and international travellers looking to explore both Finnish Lapland and Northern Norway and experience, for example, the famous Hurtigruten cruise that sails to and from Kirkenes.
In the Baltics, Finnair will add frequencies to Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius for the summer of 2025. Tallinn and Riga will get five and Vilnius two additional weekly frequencies.

Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair said:
“We are delighted to introduce a destination that further strengthens our already extensive network in the Arctic region. The new route enables a smooth connection for customers travelling up to Northern Norway, making it fast and easy to reach the destination from Helsinki”,
Regional Growth – but hope springs eternal for Japan
There’s an emphasis on regional growth in the summer, with Finnair’s regional arm having a lot more to do in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, as well as its new route to Kirkenes.
However, it seems that Finnair is hoping for a major recovery as it offers double-daily to the Tokyo region in the summer, whilst keeping aircraft busy in the winter with a daily operation to Dallas.
Whilst the time benefit that Helsinki had has dissipated due to the closure of some airspace to the airline, it is trying to make up with better amenities and premium passenger experiences.
We’ll have to see how things pan out as the year progresses- there’s plenty of time for changes ahead…
