For those who have been waiting for Lufthansa’s next-generation seating product- Allegris – has finally taken to the sky.
Well, mostly.
The first scheduled flight with Lufthansa Allegris on board, LH476, took off this afternoon at 16:14 from Munich for Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. The aircraft (D-AIXT) will return this evening to its hub, to operate with a service to Toronto on Thursday.
Both Vancouver and Toronto will be served alternately with Vancouver on selected flights in the first few months. With further A350s delivered, Allegris will also be available on flights to Chicago and Montreal in the summer.
From late summer, flights will also be operated to Shanghai and San Francisco.
This aircraft will feature Allegris Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class
Extracting Revenue and Value
For those who are forward-booking, flights with the Lufthansa Allegris cabin on board will be offered for booking for the winter flight schedule with the entire product range during the summer.
Further details on prices and benefits for status customers will also be published at that time.
You’ll notice the word “prices”. That’s because Lufthansa is going to monetisation the Allegris cabin hard.
In the first phase, its high-yielding business class travellers will be the first to face the checkbox and pay treatment. The Business Class Classic Seat reservation will remain free of charge.
For those who want additional options (such as the Business Class Suite, the Extra Space Seat, the Privacy Seat by the window and the Extra Long Bed), be prepared to pay within the seat reservation system for those seats.
These seats? They’ll cost extra in the future.
You said mostly flying…
Allegris is a four-class product, with First, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class products as we’ve covered in the past. The first Allegris aircraft is departing without the First Class product installed.
This is due to supply chain shortages and manufacturing delays. According to Runway Girl Network, expect to see First Class appear in late August or September.
Let’s see how it performs
It has been a long wait since Lufthansa teased their new business-class product in 2017 (Yes. That long ago) when it was meant to debut on their Boeing 777X aircraft.
However, Lufthansa is leaving behind the world of press images and computer renders, with the real product now flying in the sky.
It’ll be down to the customers in the longer term – after the aircraft has been in the air for a few months to see how it performs in the real world.

All that monetization and they still couldn’t come up with a name that doesn’t sound like an over-the-counter allergy medication.
“Have year-round allergies in Florida, where nothing ever dies off? Try Allegris!”?
