Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (4th May)

04/05/2024 by Kevincm

We’re into the first of the Bank holiday weekends of May in the United Kingdom. But it’s Saturday, and I’m at a friend’s wedding (so this is coming to you from a Motorway service on the way home, so it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

May the Forth Be With You – ANA’s BB-8 Jet. Something to celebrate this Jedi Holiday with.

TRIP REPORT: Surprise Surprise

Speaking of four – this week, we’ve got four segments from the trip report this week. More touristy than not, more exploring than flying.

  • Airplane Art Special from the Hyatt Regency O’Hare
  • Various Nibbles around Chicago
  • An Instagram Trap? Coffee at Brü
  • Giordano’s Deep Dish Pizza

New Aircraft News

  • Singaporean lessor “Avation” signs for 10 ATR72-600 – First order of the year for ATR
  • Embraer delivers its 1,800 E-Jet to Azorra and Royal Jordanian – That’s a lot of E-Jets.

Passenger Experience

  • Lufthansa’s Allegris new onboard seating product (mostly) takes off with paying customers aboard – Finally.
  • Birmingham Airport puts out a warning for the weekend – Arrive Early. Security is what I would describe loosely as “a hot mess”
  • Emirates and Bulgari announce new Amenity Kits – Who knew amenity kits have seasons?

Loyalty

  • Scandinavian Airlines confirms its move to SkyTeam – 1st September is the magic day.

Trains

  • Eurostar Pledeges to power trains with 100% renewable energy by 2030 – We’ll see.

Routes and Networks

Delta Air Lines to restart its Tampa to Amsterdam service – Seasonal Winter Service ahoy!

Airplane Art

  • See in the trip report segment 😉

Next Week

We’ll be moving into some of the bigger chunks of the trip report next week – and who knows, I might actually finish it depending on how the week goes. Things will probably be very quiet on Monday as Economy Class and Beyond enjoy a bank holiday this year (as I’ll be out and about during the Late May Bank Holiday)

On top of that, we’ll have our usual mixture of news, views, commentary and thought, as we begin our ramp-up for Aircraft Interiors Expo 2024.

Expect some changes next week

Until then, Happy Landings!
