Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (8th June)

08/06/2024 by Kevincm

It’s the end of another week, as I’ve spent most of it crawling on the floor, in cable looms and pondering how my pretty network patching fell apart so quickly*.

It must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Hamburg Haputbahnhof

* And the answer is: a misconfigured switch that never entered a stack can really mess with your week. The image is, of course, Hamburg Hauptbahnhof.

Routes and Networks

  • Fiji Airways to join oneworld – It makes more sense than oneworld connect does.
  • British Airways to add an extra service to Dehli – Three times a day from April 2025
  • Emirates to serve Madagascar… via The Seychelles – All the animals of Madagascar had to do was wait for a flight via Dubai and The Seychelles. Although it would have made for a poor movie plot.

Passenger Experience

  • easyJet announces a tie-up with Costa Coffee – More coffee tastes in the air

IFE

  • Bluebox secures a renewal of their partnership with Jazeera Airways – Extended play with Bluebox Wow.
  • Air Arabia signs Panasonic Avionics to provide connectivity and IFE – Wireless IFE on the way for Air Arabia

Seating

  • Pegasus Airlines selects the Acro Series 9 Fixed-Back seat – Another win for Acro post-AIX
  • Airbus Services secure multiple contacts over AIX – Bins for Swiss, Retrofits for Thai Airways and China Airlines

Rail

  • Introducing the Avanti West Coast Evero – The Class 805 enters service – Evero? Really?
  • SWISS expands its AirRail links from Geneva – More options from Geneva

Pretty Pictures

  • Emirates Boeing 777-300ER at Hamburg Airport

Next Week

We’re heading back to normal next week – all things being equal. Of course, this is my world, so I expect nothing but chaos.  I am going to get the snapshots out this week as well as the first of the big deep dives from AIX – some stories that need more than a little headline or two.

As well as the trip report. That’s a work in progress.

Sigh. Yes. That’s the term. A work in progress.

On top of that, we’ll have our usual mixture of news, views, commentary and whatever of interest passes over the wire and onto my desk.

Until then, Happy Landings!
