Mr Dai Haoyu, Acting Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning, at Singapore Airlines, said:
“China is a key market for the Singapore Airlines Group. This new flight to Beijing Daxing allows SIA to offer an additional daily service to Beijing, a popular destination for both tourist and business travellers. With 24 destinations in the Group’s mainland China network, we offer some of the best options and connections for travel between Singapore and China, and beyond.”
Mr Kong Yue, Vice President, of Beijing Daxing International Airport, said:
“Singapore Airlines is the first foreign airline to operate services from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Singapore. We believe the inception of Singapore Airlines at Beijing Daxing International Airport will bring about a renewed sense of energy and opportunities, fulfilling the travel demand between both countries as we jointly work together for more good things to come.”
Extending SIA’s reach in China
This route to Daxing will mark the first expansion to China since 2020 – when services contracted heavily. The groups will serve 24 destinations, with Singapore Airlines flying to Beijing (Capital), Beijing (Daxing), Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Xiamen.
Meanwhile, Scoot will fly to 17 destinations, which include Changsha, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Haikou, Hangzhou, Jinan, Kunming, Nanchang, Nanjing, Nanning, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shenyang, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xi’an, and Zhengzhou.
With an additional step in China, along with additional capacity being deployed to Bejing Capital Airport, maybe the softness that has been the outbound/inbound aviation market to China might be stabilising to the point where expansion for some airlines into the region is possible.
We’ll have to see what else is on the Singapore Airlines Group’s agenda with China – to see what routes and demands can be met… and that are viable.
