KLM to add Portland, OR to its network

29/06/2024 by Kevincm

It seems that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is picking up the Amsterdam – Portland, OR route.

KLM is planning to operate a direct service between Amsterdam and Portland, Oregon. Starting 27th October 2024, KLM will fly three times a week during winter and five times a week during summer from Amsterdam, replacing Delta Air Lines who will stop flying route after the summer.

The launch marks KLM’s 21st direct destination in North America and will be operated under the Delta – Air France – KLM – Virgin Atlantic Joint Venture.

The planned operation is as follows

Winter Season

KL615 DEPART AMS 10:25 ARRIVE PDX 11:25
KL616 DEPART PDX 13:25 ARRIVE AMS 07:50+1

Commences: 27th October 2024
Operates Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays
Booked Equipment: KLM Boeing 787-9

Summer 2025

KL615 DEPART AMS 10:40 ARRIVE PDX 11:30
KL616 DEPART PDX 13:25 ARRIVE AMS 07:555+1

Operates Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
Commences Summer 2025
Booked Equipment: KLM Boeing 787-9

The flights will be operated by KLM Boeing 787-9s. They will offer 30 seats in World Business Class, 21 seats in Premium Comfort Class, and 224 seats in Economy Class.

An interesting swap

Delta Air Lines currently operates one international flight from Portland – its route to Amsterdam. It seems the airline has decided to rededicate the resource of widebody aircraft and crew to other bases and let its joint venture partner operate the route, whilst providing connectivity as needed out of the airport.

For KLM, it’s another notch on the bedpost as it adds another transatlantic route over, with plans to strengthen it during the summer period.

Given that they compete with British Airways, Condor and Icelandair with connectivity to Europe, it’ll be interesting to see what spin they bring to the transatlantic route.
