It seems that Status Matches are running rife at the moment, with ITA Airways being the next to offer a match.
ITA Airways is targeting international frequent flyers with this match, with the offer open to those who hold addresses outside Italy.
19 airlines have been targeted with the status match. You can find the list and what you can match here.
Additionally, frequent flyers who request and receive approval for a Status Match will be awarded 10,000 qualifying Volare points.
The full details are at https://www.ita-airways.com/en_us/volare/promotions.html.
The Volare Status Match campaign runs from today to August 19, 2024, and is open to all Volare members who registered with a residence address outside of Italy. To participate, members must:
- Be a member of the Volare program or Volare AVVENTURA.
- Hold a frequent flyer card from one of the 19 airlines on the list at a level higher than the entry level of Volare.
- Has not taken part in any previous Volare Status Match campaigns.
There are four levels of status Club Smart (entry-level), Club Plus, Club Premium, and Club Executive, each offering various benefits such as extra baggage allowance, priority boarding and check-in, and dedicated customer service.
Volare members can earn points from other activities other than flying, through its partners (with ITA Airways currently being a SkyTeam member – although that will change once Lufthansa gets its 41% control in). These can be used to allow for progression through the tiers.
If it fits in your plans, it’s worth a thought.
I’m always careful when thinking about status matches these days – as the primary question is “Will I use it?”. As Italy isn’t on my flying radar too much (and I’m not much of a SkyTeam flyer), this match isn’t too useful for me.
However, if you’ve been looking at the SAS or Flying Blue status matches, this could work in your favour.
It might also be a good chance to get a leg up in Miles and More, as once Lufthansa Group gets its fingers in ITA Airways (and subject to all agreements closing), the migration to the Lufthansa Group programme will be… inevitable.
It’s a match which is worth spending more than a few minutes to think about.
