A Desk Rabbit? What is one of those you might ask? … Well, this classic from the documentary The IT Crowd explains it all.
It’s those engineers under desks, wiring things up, testing, retesting and building out sites, trying to work out where something goes wrong. And normally, that’s not spent in the wonderful headlands that are above the desk.
No, it’s underneath, where engineers are left to ponder the meaning of life.
Thankfully, I have gel-cushioned kneepads. So I have that to be comfortable whilst crawling.
That’s just part of what was happening. Uncrating, patch-pannel building, Network printer configuration, site commissioning… and hoping OpenReach do their job.
And arguing with a certain printer provider about their crappy software.
Now multiply it by two, as I’ve had another site to move and commission in the intervening time period.
Life is busy – to the point where I have to step back occasionally (Hence, why things have been a lot quieter than usual.. and this trip report has had to be delayed so heavily.
Life does happen, but there does come a point where I will be off again… just to recharge these constantly hammered batteries.
Let’s do a round-up to close this trip report up
Flixbus
More than acceptable and the price was more than right. Just bring earphones to drown out other travellers.
Elizabeth Line
It’s still a marvel of public transport. Except when it crowds out.
British Airways Lounges
One word: Packed.
British Airways in the Air
Club Europe continues to be a passable product – nothing exciting, but the catering always adds a little drama when it’s never welcome. There are tweaks that need to be made (such as cocktail tables, and having a consistent product throughout the cabin)… but things are stabilising at least.
They don’t seem to be worse than previous flights – that’s something to be welcomed.
The Ibis Budget St Pauli
There’s one thing I need everyone to remember about this hotel. It has a job – to provide a bed for me to sleep on. If there’s decent Wi-Fi, it’s even better. And it did that job perfectly. With an Ibis range of hotels – you know what you’re signing up for, and you know what you’re getting.
Next
I’ve been cooking something in the background for the past few weeks – I known I’ve needed a break longer than I would dare admit.
So, where next? One pictorial hint:
Please join me in Taking the long way to Singapore… and back.
Eh? Which Airline?
Yes. There are airlines. More than most should have for the UK to Singapore routing.
Until next time, Toodle-pip!
