Royal Jordanian offers up a status match

06/08/2024 by Kevincm

Status match season is truly upon us, with Royal Jordanian joining the matching party.

Interestingly, you can match hotel and airline programmes in this status match!

The programme allows a match to their “Silver Jay” and “Golden Sparrow” statuses. It is not open to their top-tier status – “Platinum Hawk”.

As Royal Jordanian is a oneworld carrier, the following status will match to a oneworld alliance level:

  • Silver Jay – Oneworld Ruby
  • Golden  Sparrow – Oneworld Saphire
  • Platiuhm Hawk – Oneworld Emerald

Which countries can take part?

The match is not open to everyone in all countries – so do a bit of digging. Currently, the status match is accepting applicants from the following counties:

  • Austria
  • Bahrain
  • Belgium
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Egypt
  • France
  • Germany
  • Iraq
  • Ital
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Netherland
  • Oman
  • Portugal
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Syria
  • Turkey
  • United Arab Emirate
  • United Kingdom

What airlines can you match from?

Like most matches, you cannot match from an airline inside the same alliance as Royal Jordanian. The list of airlines gives you some options to play with:

How much does the status match cost?

Like a lot of status matches we’ve seen recently, there is a cost attached.

  • For Silver Jay the fee is  USD$49
  • For Golden Sparrow, the fee is USD $149

Where can I apply?

Head to https://rj.statusmatch.com/. The Frequently Asked Questions – which is worth a long dig through is at https://rj.statusmatch.com/faq/ and is worth a long read if you’re considering this status match.

 Is it worth it?

For the Silver Jay, not really. Oneworld Ruby gives you limited privileges across the alliance.

Golden Hawk could be tempting – especially if you need to diversify away from your current elite programme and have a matching programme you can take advantage of (e.g. an Elite hotel programme).  This level also gives you oneworld Saphire, meaning you can enter lounges and enjoy priority accesses where offered.

Before signing up for any programme, it is also worth time to check the benefits, mileage earning and retention numbers (especially if you’re going to transfer your loyalty. You can find out about the Elite Benefits and Retention programme at https://www.rj.com/en/royal-club/welcome-to-royal-club/benefits-at-glance, and their mileage earning programme at https://www.rj.com/en/royal-club/earn-and-buy/earn-miles
