Malaysia Airlines to return to Paris

07/09/2024 by Kevincm

After a period of nearly ten years, Malaysia Airlines is planning to return to Paris.

The airline is planning to launch direct flights to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris from Kula Lumpur International Airport. It is planning to launch four weekly flights from 22 March 2025. This service will operate with an Airbus A350-900.

This route, which will commence on 22 March 2025, represents Malaysia Airlines’ 68th destination, reinforcing its position as the gateway to Asia and beyond.

In celebration of the route’s return after nearly a decade, Malaysia Airlines is unveiling the “Time for Paris” campaign. Tickets will be available for sale from 6 September 2024, with an introductory all-in return fare of RM3,699 from Kula Lumpur International Airport.

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said,

“Our expansion into Europe marks a significant milestone for Malaysia Airlines. With the arrival of additional widebody aircraft starting this Quarter 4, we are ready to bring this long-awaited city back into our network. While the European market is highly competitive, we see tremendous potential for this route to attract key travellers, not just from Malaysia but also from neighbouring regions.

By launching direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Paris, we reaffirm our position as the flagship airline and strengthen our role as the gateway to Asia and beyond. This route will be served by our state-of-the-art A350-900 aircraft, which already operates on key routes like London and Doha, delivering a world-class travel experience to our passengers.”

Plotting ahead

With Malaysia Airlines returning to Paris, it marks the first European destination outside London that the airline will serve for some time. In the past, it also operated to Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich Vienna, and Zagreb, as well as various UK airports.

Since then the airline has contracted hard in an effort to rebuild itself and strengthen its balance sheets.

With the Airbus A330-900neo being delivered slightly late, this might have affected plans – but should put them in reasonable stead as the airline prepares to grow again.

We’ll have to see what destinations those new Airbus A330-900neos are lined up for – apart from replacing existing A330-300 routes. With the range of the type (7,200 nautical miles or 13,334 kilometres), there are certainly a lot of options for the future.
