Time for something a little different for this Snapshot – The Avagard Capsule Hotel very near Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
I’m sure you’re all aware of how I do this travel writing thing by now. But for those reading this for the first time, I have two major travel writing styles:
- Trip Reports – These are full deep-dive reports taking you into the experience, the small things… as well as the big things!
- Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the product in some gentle headlines (and normally, only images shot on the phone)
We’re on the Snapshot in this post. I’ll be doing this series of posts a little out-of-order… mainly to entertain myself, but to concentrate on some of the more interesting bits first.
Booking
This was booked via Hotels.com, priced at £43 for an overnight stay. This was booked via Quidco to maximise the cashback possibilities.
Location
For those who love adventure, the Avaguard Capsule Hotel is in the basement of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, near the Airport Rail Link.
This requires you to exit the airside area into Thailand, clearing immigration and customs.
Once though, you need to descend to the Airport Rail Link terminal. Instead of taking the route to the City Rail line, you go down the section that used to be used for the Express Line.
This has stores, currency exchange and luggage forwarding. Towards the bottom, both the Avaguarrd and Box capsule hotels are hidden.
Check-in
There was a member of staff looking after the capsule hotel. My passport information with the immigration stamp was collected too to check me in
I walked over to the capsule (with a lower capsule selected for this stay). From here, I could store a suitcase at the back, and set a PIN code for the door to secure it.
The Capsule
I chose a ground-level capsule when this was booked online. This can comfortably sleep one person, and two at a push – but you will be fighting for space.
The “floor” contains the mattress throughout, whilst there are sheets and pillows
There is an air blower to keep the capsule cool, although not as strong as a fill air-conditioning unit.
To the side, there was a control panel for the room.
Water, as well as some tissues, were supplied.
To exit the capsule, you needed to press a button, which released the electronic lock. Once pressed, you needed to slide the
If you needed the toilet, you would need to go to the ground transportation level and use the toilets on this floor.
Dining, Food and Drink
The 7/11 and other resultants on the basement level, or the other dining areas in the airport.
Checkout
As I was leaving the capsule hotel early to meet a Finnair flight, I closed the door on the capsule and left. No key or anything other form of formality to hand back the room was required.
