It seems climate is driving Austrian Airlines short-haul operations for Summer 2025, with the announcement of three new services – as well as some classics.
Onto the new “Cool destinations”, with the airline noting that demands for cooler destinations in terms of temperature are higher on the booking list.
As such, three new destinations are in demand:
- Edinburgh (United Kingdom) will operate three times a week between 3 June to 27 September 2025 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
- Slyt (Germany) will have a Saturdays-only service between 28 June to 6 September 2025
- Harstad-Narvik – Lofoten Islands (Norway), every Friday between 30 May to 29 August 2025
- Burgas (Bulgaria) – three times a week from 19 June 2025, every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from Vienna to Burgas
More classical destinations
Thus, the summer schedule 2025 includes 104 destinations on short and medium-haul routes and 18 long-haul destinations, with the sun still being important, with 19 destinations in Green 12 in Italy, 10 in Spain and 4 in Croatia.
This also includes the recently launched connection between Linz – Frankfurt into summer 2025.
Long-Haul too
For those who prefer a longer-haul flight, Austrian has firmed up its seasonal/year-round routes. These include:
Africa:
- Cairo – Year-Round
- Mauritius – Seasonal Operation
- Marrakech – Seasonal Operation
Asia
- Bangkok – Year-Round
- Tokyo -Year-Round
- Shanghai Year-Round

Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl said
“Austrian Airlines remains committed to continuously expanding its route network with new destinations in the summer schedule 2025. ”
“Last summer, the demand for destinations in the cooler north increased significantly. Accordingly, we are flying to three ‘cool’ new destinations in summer 2025: Edinburgh, Sylt, and the Lofoten islands,
“We expect that these three new destinations, combined with already established classics in the north such as Tromsø and Reykjavik, will ideally complement our portfolio for those who really want to cool down,”
Lots of bases covered
Be you into cooler climbs (where air conditioning isn’t needed) or a sun-worshiper who wants those few minutes longer by the pool or beach – Austrian Airlines seems to have a rather packed schedule for the Summer 2025 season.
Having a breadth of a network is important – as well as the frequencies to support the operations. The seasonal flights appear to offer enough regularity to be used (and provide some useful onward connectivity in the case of Edinburgh and Burgas).
All of this can feed into the lounge haul operation – allowing you a choice of both seasonal and year-round services – as well as the rest of the Lufthansa Group network.
