With Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines deepening their relationship, there is good news, with frequency increases announced.
Service Uplifts ahead
Onto the meat of the announcement, with Singapore Airlines planning to operate eight daily between Jakarta, Indonesia, and Singapore services from 22 November 2024, up from six currently. Garuda Indonesia will expand its daily flights from four to six starting 1 December 2024.
In total, this will offer 14 services a day between the two cities.
The airlines will extend their codeshare arrangement to include these new services. Today, they codeshare flights between Singapore and four Indonesian cities (Denpasar, Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya), as well as routes between Singapore and London (Heathrow) and Mumbai. By 1 December 2024, the carriers will operate 390 weekly codeshare services, including 362 between Singapore and Indonesia.
Deeping the commercial and frequent flyer relationship
For those frequent flyers between Jakarta and Singapore – in the first quarter of 2025, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines will deepen their frequent flyer programme partnership by allowing GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer members to earn and redeem miles on codeshare routes.
Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines will introduce joint fare products in the first quarter of 2025. This will enable customers to book flights operated by both airlines between Singapore and Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya within a single itinerary.
Both airlines are considering operating joint revenue-sharing flights between the two countries, coordinating flight schedules to improve connectivity, and exploring joint sales and marketing activities to improve connectivity.

Lots of steps ahead
Commercial Joint Ventures can be very productive for airlines once they get past the hurdles – it allows them to coordinate operations, share revenue risks on routes, as well as manage capacity on routes.
As part of the first phase of the roll-out, there’s also going to be an uplift in frequency – offering more choices between Jakarta and Singapore.
But there are many steps ahead for both airlines, as they add codeshares and frequent flyer reciprocity.
We’ll have to see how these new products work out, as well as the impact on the market – and if others can muscle in.
