We’re halfway through November and the nights are dark, with hot coca and coffee to keep people warm – as well as the noise of German markets filling the city.
It must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.
Christmas market season on New Street, Birmingham
Snapshots
I’ve been working on the main trip report in the background – this week was not as productive as I’d like on the front end… but I think I’m ready to launch the trip report next week. For now, the last snapshot of the current batch.
Iberia and its Airbus A321XLR
Congratulations to Airbus and Iberia for the first commercial transoceanic flight of the A321XLR. Hopefully, we’ll see some more exciting routes from Iberia soon as they work out how life with the extra long-range variant of the A321neo
- Iberia prepares to take its Airbus A321XLR into the service
- In action: The Recaro R3 takes flight aboard Iberia’s new Airbus A321XLR
New Aircraft News
- Avia Solutions signs for 40 Boeing 737-8s – First order announced since the machinists strike
- ATR Aircraft suspends its ATR42-600 STOL programme – Not so good news for the Short Take-off and Landing variant of the ATR42
Routes and Networks
- Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines Increase Services Between Jakarta and Singapore – For various countries and for home.
- KLM to add three long-haul destinations to its network – San Diego (US), Georgetown (Guyana) and Hyderabad (India) to join the party
- Jet2 to launch a new base at London Luton Airport – It seems Jet2 doesn’t want to walk along at London Luton Airport
Trains
- Rushing for a train in Birmingham? Make sure you’re there at least 40 seconds before departure – Just give yourself more time. Especially at Birmingham New Street.
- CrossCountry Trains to add a direct Cardiff to Edinburgh Service – Very much an English Welsh and Scottish service (yes train community, I will see myself out with that pun)
- Avanti West Coast rolls out their Class 807 on the London-Liverpool Route – At least it will be a guaranteed seven-cars to Liverpool Lime Street (or longer if there’s a Pendolino).

Next Week
There’s a little extended planning going on in the background as I execute a little chaos towards the end of the year – and the new year. How is that chaos planning going? That’s another question.
I’m also looking forward to kicking off the next trip report – and yes, there’s a launch header for it.
On top of that, I’ll be keeping you fed on the headlines that cross my desk, be they air, train, passenger experience or otherwise.
Until then, Happy Landings.
Editors note. I’m also happy as I’ve found my Dell 7400. I forgot why I stopped using a Chromebook…
