TAP Air Portugal lines up three new routes… one has more than a twist…

04/12/2024 by Kevincm

It seems TAP Air Portugal is lining up some new routes for next year. Let’s see where they are offering to send their passengers… with at least one surprise in the routes…

TAP Air Portugal Airbus A330-900neo at Chicago O'Hare - Image, Economy Class and Beyond

Lisbon – Los Angeles

The new Lisbon to LA route will start on the 16th of May 2025, operating three times a week initially, then scaling to four times a week

Planned operations are as follows:

DEPART LIS 09:55 ARRIVE LAX 14:40
DEPART LAX 16:40 ARRIVE LIS 12:00+1

Commences 16th May 2025, operating Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays
Increases on 26th May 2025, operating Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Booked Equipment Airbus A330-900neo.

TAP will utilise an Airbus A330-900neo on this route, configured in a 34 Business Class and 264 Economy Class cabin, with extra space economy seats in the first 11 rows of the economy cabin. Business Class seats are based on the Recaro CL6710, whilst economy class gets the comfortable CL3710.

You’ll need that comfort, with the flight lasting 12 hours 45 on the way out and 11 hours 20 on the way back.

Lead-in Fares start at €679

Porto – Boston

It seems the A321LR is making another play here for network building, with the airline using the type between Porto and Boston, with a summer season route announced.

Planned operations are as follows:

DEPART OPO 18:05 ARRIVE BSO 20:30
DEPART BOST 23:00 ARRIVE OPO 10:35

Commences 14th May 2025 through 25th October
Operates Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Booked Equipment: Airbus A321LR

As noted, TAP will utilise an Airbus A321LR on this route, with the cabin comprising of 16 business class seats and 155 economy seats with Extra space economy seats in the first six rows of the Economy cabin.

Lead-in Fares start at €529 return.

A stop in the Azores

Finally, and maybe most interestingly, from 3 June 2025, one of TAP’s weekly flights between Lisbon and San Francisco, on Tuesdays, will make a stopover on Terceira in both directions.

In doing so, it creates a direct flight between the island of the Azores and California, to serve the large Azorean community residing there.

Currently, TAP flies from Lisbon to seven US airports in New York, Newark, Boston, Miami, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Chicago, and from Porto to Newark.

Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP said

“We are very excited to announce the new flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles and from Porto to Boston, as well as the weekly offer of a direct flight between Terceira and San Francisco,”

“With these new routes, TAP further strengthens its privileged position in the transatlantic connection of Customers who want the best air travel between Europe, the Americas and Africa”.

Well. That’s more than a little unusual.
