Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (21st December)

21/12/2024 by Kevincm

We’re in the final weekend before Christmas, where the world is going quite mad in the run-up to the big day.

But here to inject a little sanity as well as random aviation news headlines, it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Mailbox. Birmingham
A rather minimalist wide view, inside The Mailbox, Central Birmingham.

End of Year orders

  • Luxair signs for further Embraer E195-E2 – Exercising options for two more aircraft.
  • Pegasus Airlines selects further Boeing 737 MAX aircraft – Stealing the show with 100 orders + 100 options.
  • Air Canada signs for five further Airbus A220 aircraft – Five More A220-300s.
  • Lufthansa adds a further five Airbus A350 aircraft to its backlog – and five more A350-1000s to round out the week.

New Aircraft Deliveries

  • Aer Lingus takes delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR – Not one, but two aircraft delivered to the Irish Flag Carrier… and are in service.

Passenger Experience

  • Aer Lingus Enables Apple’s Find My “Share Item Location” to help find your lost Baggage – Along with a few others.
  • Emirates lines up festive activities on the ground and in the air – Why can’t you celebrate Christmas in the air?
  • KLM completes rollout of Premium Comfort Class (Premium economy) – KLM catches up to Delta, Air France and Virgin Atlantic.

Routes and Networks

  • Qatar Airways to relaunch services to Canberra, Australia – The return of the Melbourne tag-on flight.

Kevin is annoyed at Adobe

  • Adobe does what Adobe does best – Price Hikes Ahoy – If you’re an Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop user, check when your contract ends. Adobe has done and an Adobe. After all, it would be a shame if you couldn’t access your images, wouldn’t it?

Pretty Pictures

  • China Eastern Boeing 777-300ER at San Francisco International Airport.

Next Week

It’s going to quieten down a lot next week, as we head into Christmas and New Year weeks. I’ll be using the time to take a step back too, as we all need time over the period to stop, reflect and relax.

That’s unless something stupid happens.

I’ll have a couple of bits of work out during this period that might be interesting. Alternatively, I might just post Airplane Art through the quiet news days.

And yes – we’ll have a Review 2024, where I’ll spend some time going through the headlines and seeing what trends I can tease out.

So, until next week – Happy Landings!
