It seems Lufthansa Group is happy enough with Brussels Airlines due to gain further aircraft, an additional three Airbus A320neos.
This follows the first Airbus A320neo, which was delivered on 1st November 2023, direct from Airbus. This in itself was a milestone moment for Brussels Airlines, as it was the first time in the history of the carrier that brand-new aircraft joined the fleet.
Since then, Brussels Airlines has grown its Airbus A320neo fleet to five aircraft. With the extra three A320neo joining the fleet by summer 2026. These aircraft will replace two older A319-aircraft. The third unit is used to expand the fleet, whilst helping to reduce emissions compared to the older aircraft.
These aircraft are arriving later than originally planned due to worldwide supply chain delays of the aircraft manufacturers.
An updated passenger experience
The new A320neos will have the Airspace cabin installed aboard it, with updated lighting and the larger AirspaceXL overhead bins which allow for 40% more luggage to be stowed.
Brussels Airlines is also promising to introduce a new cabin design concept on the A320neo, with new, more comfortable ergonomic seats. Given that this comes from the Lufthansa order, it is safe to assume these will be the Geven Essenza.
Each Airbus A320neo has capacity for up to 180 passengers.

Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines said
“Being able to add extra brand-new aircraft is a win-win-win: by replacing older aircraft by the most fuel-efficient aircraft on the market, we reduce our impact on the environment. We are also growing our fleet, which creates extra jobs and improves connectivity for Belgium. And last but not least: the A320neo is a joy to fly, both for passengers and crew, thanks to it’s upgraded, comfortable cabins, the quietness during the flight and additional space for hand luggage.”
Sustainable Growth
With Brussels Airlines’ cost base seemingly sustainable, it seems the profitability of the airline is enough that growth is on the agenda, with these three A320neos on the way. In addition, three additional Airbus A330 widebody aircraft will be joining the fleet over the years, supporting its African and Sub-Sarharah network. The airline is promising to redesign the cabins over the coming year.
The airline has also signed for four Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which are leased from airBaltic to provide additional capacity.
For passengers, more seats and new aircraft should improve the “hard” passenger experience.
It’ll be up to the skills of the crew, as well as the management to ensure the “soft” parts of the passenger experience can meet what the hardware can deliver.
