Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (4th Janaury)

04/01/2025 by Kevincm

We’re into the New Year, and as decorations are taken down, lights are turned off, and the cities get a little darker again, its time to look at something bright.

I lie. It’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond

a group of people walking on a sidewalk with trees with lights
Quieter streets in Birmingham City Centre – with snow on the way. And yes, it’s snowing across parts of the UK. Sky News UK and BBC News have the rolling coverage.

Apologies for the lack of posts in the latter half of the week since New Year. I’ve been primarily playing a game of “compare and contrast”. And losing mostly. I really dislike spreadsheets some days.

Review 2024

My review of the year, with trends, travel and numbers. Expect more pain in 2025 – but on the plus side, expect more entertainment…

  • REVIEW 2024: A look back in the mirror of headlines and trends
  • REVIEW 2024: A Year in Flight and Passenger Experience
  • REVIEW 2024: Kevin’s year in numbers

British Airways tells leisure passengers to push off.

That’s the polite headline. I’m working on my take of things, how much you will need to spend and which corporate daddy you’ll need to sell your soul to.

  • British Airways to introduce Revenue-based Earning Tier Points – And it *is* as bad as you think – And yes, I’m crunching the numbers too. I’ll have my commentary out soon.

Routes and Networks

  • Emirates to serve Kuwait and Bahrain with the Airbus A350-900 – dates have been pulled forward

Sustainability

  • easyJet trials new paint that lowers the weight and fuel burn of the aircraft – 27kg a flight is 27kg a flight…

Pretty Pictures

  • Thai Airways International Boeing 777-300ER climbing out of Zurich Airport

Next Week

I’m on the road a lot next week (for someone who is desk-based, that’s an achievement in itself). With the additional spreadsheets from hell ™, I’m going to be tied up on a lot of other things than writing next week.

Although I will probably get a trip locked in this week after humming and ahhhing about it, as deadlines need to be hit.

As time allows, I’ll have headlines that come over my desk, as well as a few other things that I’m working on.

Until then, Happy Landings!
