Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (11th January)

11/01/2025 by Kevincm

We’re now deep into the cold month of January (or if the way my legs are, very cold). Nonetheless, we have a show to run here, so it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

It’s been a busy week in Economy Class and Beyond Land in more ways than one (I’ve spent more time in Solihull than should be legal). I’d also like to formally welcome new readers who are visiting us from the BA article I posted Monday and thank you for sharing it. I hope you’ve been able to pick out a few things from it, and are making your onward plans.

Loyalty

  • So, you think the new British Airways revenue earning tiers are bad? Think again – they are a *LOT* worse – Be prepared to pay a lot more than the headline prices want, along with the gutting of earning of partner earning.
  • Loganair to adopt Avios as its loyalty currency – with more details to follow

Paperwork is everything

  • UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) expands to Non-EU visitors from today (8th January) – More electronic paperwork to complete.

New Aircraft News

  • Alelo converts its ATR42STOL order – into ATR42-600 and ATR72-600
  • STARLUX to double its Airbus A350F commitment – From five to 10 aircraft

Routes and Networks

  • Cathay Pacific to return to Rome for Summer 2025 – Rome wasn’t built in a day, and nor is a route network

Passenger Experience

  • Cathay Pacific to offer Hong Kong Flavours for Premium Economy and Economy class – The trickle-down effect hits Economy Class with some rather nice tastes of Hong Kong.

Pretty Pictures

  • Loganair ATR72-600 taking off from Dublin Airport – Side note, I had no heads up of the Loganair Avios announcement. This was just more of a happy coincidence.

Next Week

If I can get my backside out of a bit of a funk its in, there is some flying to plan as well as a lot of upcoming trips I need to tidy down.

With the world back at work, there should be plenty of headlines – as well as items I haven’t had time to tidy up this week.

Until then, Happy Landings!
