Qatar Airways adds Bogotá and Caracas to its long-haul network

22/01/2025 by Kevincm

Qatar Airways continues its network expansion, adding two new long-haul destinations to its network, connecting destinations in South America.

Qatar Airways Boeing 777-200LR QR807 NRT to DOH

Both Bogotá (Columbia) and Caracas (Venezuela) will join the network, being the airline’s 15th and 16th destinations in the Americas,

This route will be operated as a triangular service, with the flights operating from Hamad International Airport (Doha) to Bogotá El Dorado International Airport in Colombia, and then continuing to Caracas Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuela. The return flight from Caracas will operate non-stop to Doha.

This new service makes Qatar Airways the first and only airline to offer non-stop flights from the Middle East to Colombia and the only Middle Eastern carrier operating in Venezuela

Whilst the airline has advised that it plans to operate the route in “Early summer” on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it seems that’s as far as the airline got with planning the deployment. Dates are “to follow” it seems at this juncture, with ticket sales promised to start so

Qatar Airways will deploy its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on this triangular route. These are equipped with 42 Business Class seats and 234 Economy Class seats.

Economy Class and Beyond tried the economy class seat in 2015 – it’s not too shabby – but given the distance you’ll be flying (8,261 miles) you’ll need to be more than passable for the 13-hour and beyond flight.

With a 234 economy seat count, this aircraft will be fitted with the MiniPod Business Class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration as opposed to QSuites on this route, and the typical 3-4-3 (with variations) in economy class.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said:

“The launch of flights to Bogotá and Caracas marks a transformative moment for Qatar Airways and for travellers to South America. As the first airline to offer nonstop service from the Middle East to Colombia and the only Middle Eastern carrier flying to Venezuela, we are creating new opportunities to connect people, cultures, and commerce.

“Passengers can look forward to experiencing Qatar Airways’ world-class in-flight hospitality as we continue to reach new heights in long-haul travel with our second longest flight into the Americas. These routes embody our commitment to pioneering travel experiences and redefining global connectivity with our award-winning service.”

New connectivity to South America

It’s another interesting move from Qatar Airways as they seek to strike out new routes and possibilities. With a triangle route, the airline is keeping its bets open, especially considering the elevation of Bogotá Airport which makes long-haul flights hard, without a pit-stop for fuel.

With Emirates serving Caracas via Miami and Qatar Airways serving both Bogotá and Caracas, there seems to be a lot of interest in the region by these airlines.

Let’s see if there is a market to sustain the interest.
