American Airlines is to add nine new destinations out of Chicago O’Hare for 2025.
International connections
For those wanting international travel, American Airlines is adding a direct service to Naples, Italy. This follows the recently announced service to Madrid. Both of these routes will utilise a Boeing 787-8.
Closer to home, the airline will also serve Halifax, Canada with an Embraer E175.
American will operate 10 daily flights to eight popular European destinations, including three daily flights to London Heathrow Airport. Together with its oneworld partners, American’s customers will have access to up to 41 daily flights to 17 countries this summer.
Domestic flights
For those wanting to explore the outdoors, or just want something closer, the airline is adding service to Bismarck, North Dakota; Boise, Idaho; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Spokane, Washington; and Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Florida destinations in the region will see service increases too.
Finally, for those who want to escape the cold of a Chicago Winter, the airline is planning to launch a service to Honolulu in October.

Ben Humphrey, American’s Vice President of ORD Operations.
“O’Hare has always been a vital hub for American, connecting the Midwest to our global network and bringing travelers from across the world to Chicago for business and pleasure,”
“Strengthening our network is a promise to our customers that we’ll continue to provide exceptional service to the places they want to go. And it reinforces to our partners and stakeholders that we’ll be an economic driver for the region well into the future — all powered by our Chicago team members who are the best at putting our customers first.”
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
“As we transform O’Hare Airport, we thank American Airlines for their commitment to the City of Chicago and its residents. Investments like this are key to preserving Chicago’s status as a world-class destination and ensuring the airport remains one of the biggest economic engines in the region,”
“With these service additions, American Airlines is bringing lower fares and better schedules to both Chicagoans and travelers from across the globe who visit our great city for business and leisure. More options to and from ORD help to keep Chicago at the center of the world stage for events, conferences and economic prosperity for years to come.”
A Busy Summer
With Chicago O’Hare being a key node in the American Airlines network, it is going to see a busy summer, with the airline planning to operate 480 daily flights out of the city.
To meet the premium passengers, there will be an additional 40% extra premium seats out of O’Hare during this summer (compared to the previous summer season).
With airlines so desperate to make hay whilst the sun shines (as the summer is the most important time in the airline calendar), these new routes will need to show their success, if they’re to last beyond the season.
Apart from Honolulu. You’ve got to wait till the winds blow in and the nights get darker to enjoy that route.
