As the days lighten, airlines are getting their Summer 2025 plans locked in. KLM has announced its intentions for the season ahead,
Intercontinental
KLM is going to be busy this summer, with its intercontinental network expanding to San Diego (United States), Georgetown (Guyana) and Hyderabad (India). The airline will also continue its service to Portland (United States) – a continuation of service after it was added in winter 2024
In terms of frequency boosting, the airline is working on its network, including boosting the combined flight to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) daily from June, compared to five times a week in the summer of 2024. This comes at the cost of Zanzibar (Tanzania) for this summer.
Las Vegas (United States), Osaka (Japan) will be seeing service increases of five flights a week. Edmonton (Canada) can be reached five times a week, with six weekly flights during the peak period.
To support the flying programme, KLM will add three new Boeing 787-10 aircraft for intercontinental routes during the summer.
Europe
In Europe, KLM offers three new destinations this summer: Ljubljana, Exeter and Biarritz.
The airline is shifting its Milan focus, with it concentrating its flights this summer to Milan Linate Airport, for easier access to the city centre. Flights that operate at Milan Malpensa Airport will be cancelled.
The airline is boosting its frequencies to certain destinations in the summer, with KLM boosting the following:
- Belfast (United Kingdom) – twice daily
- Porto (Portugal) – four times a day
- Barcelona (Spain) additional daily flight
- Split (Croatia) – twice daily in the spring and autumn
- Poznan (Polamd) – extra daily flight
- Krakow – extra capacity
KLM is also deploying its new Airbus A321neo more often, and is planning to double the number from five to ten aircraft in service during the summer season.
A busy summer… hampered by outside factors
For KLM, it seems a busy summer with 161 destinations on the cards for the season – 95 in Europe and 66 intercontinental.
However, even with the new delivery, KLM will only grow by 4% this season (compared to summer 2024), with 90% of the intercontinental capacity being operated. The airline blames long delivery times for aircraft parts and a shortage of pilots.
For the KLM, it’s going to be a busy and challenging summer as they operate this timetable with the constraints they have.
