Lufthansa updates its short-to-medium haul business class offerings

For those of you travelling with Lufthansa from the 26th of February, the airline has refreshed its Business Class meals for its short and medium-haul flights.

The updated catering offers travelers even more choice of hot and cold dishes and passengers can look forward to new delicious starters, main courses and desserts. It combines local cuisine and European influences.  The new meals were created jointly by celebrity chef Johann Lafer, Lufthansa’s culinary teams and catering partner Gate Gourmet.

On routes with a flight time of around two hours, Lufthansa passengers will in future be able to choose from a wider range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian cold dishes.

On long routes with a flight time of three hours or more, travellers will be able to choose between three hot dishes instead of the previous two.

Don’t forget to pre-order

For those of you who can pre-plan a little, Lufthansa offers a “Pre-Select” service, allowing you to pre-order from a selection of up to nine hot dishes is possible for flights lasting more than two hours.

This allows passengers to enjoy a wider choice of meals and at the same time supports optimized planning, which promotes a more sustainable use of food. The more targeted loading reduces overstocking and thus the disposal of food.

And of course, that helps the bottom line.

Caroline Drischel, Senior Vice President Customer Journey Lufthansa Group.

“The introduction of ‘Pre-Select’ on Lufthansa’s short and medium-haul routes underlines our ongoing efforts to offer our guests a consistently high-quality and uniform travel experience,” says

“The option of pre-ordering meals is already offered on SWISS flights and is also planned for Austrian Airlines.”

Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer Lufthansa Airlines.

“When developing the meals, we attached great importance to regional origin and sustainability,”

“We made a conscious decision to use local and selected European products. Lufthansa guests can look forward to a new treat for the palate.”

Choice is a wonderful thing

It’s always welcoming to see airlines work on the in-flight catering product – in any class. There’s a lot of time one of the lingering memories of a fight won’t be the seat or how long you flew – it’ll be the food.

For passengers, having new choices when flying will be welcoming aboard Lufthansa.

But having the ability to pre-book can be a lot better – guarenteeing the meal you want, whist for the airline, saving waste and weight of unwanted meals lifted into the sky.
