The airline will commence operations from Entebbee International Airport to London Gatwick on the 18th of May 2025. They will operate four weekly nonstop flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s five-year history.
This new route represents Uganda Airlines’ first foray into Europe and re-establishes a direct air link between Entebbe and the United Kingdom after nearly a decade. The introduction of this service underscores the airline’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering stronger ties between Uganda and the UK.
In turn, the new route will cut the current 16-hour journey to a nine-hour flight.
The flights will be operated using an Airbus A330-800neo, operating four times a week on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Sunday flight will depart Entebbe in the morning, whilst the other flights will operate overnight. Passengers should be able to connect at Entebbe to destinations including Harare, Lusaka, Nairobi, Lagos, Abuja, Juba, Mogadishu, Kinshasa, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Johannesburg, and the upcoming Accra route.
The airline offers a three-cabin experience on this route, with Business Class (1-2-1), Premium Economy (2-3-2) and Economy Class (2-4-2).
Ticketing is open now via the airline’s website, app and through authorised travel agents.
Expanding footprints
International growth is on the airline’s plan, with services in the planning for Guangzhou and Jeddah, whilst the airline eyeballing other destinations.
The airline has two Airbus A330-800neo, four CRJ-900s and a leased Airbus A320 from DAT, so there are some limitations as it seeks to Airbus A320neo, Boeing 787-9 and a Boeing 777F to its fleet.
With the airline noting growing demand for travel between Uganda and the United Kingdom, it’ll be interesting to see how this route performs when it spins. up operations.
