Five Guys to open an outpost at Heathrow Terminal 5

For those British Airways Silvers facing the loss of their precious lounge access, there may be some good news, with Heathrow Airport and Five Guys planning to open a store at Terminal 5.

This new Five Guys restaurant will be the first opening in a UK or a European airport. There should be plenty of space to dine, with a 2,500 square foot unit being allocated. It will be situated in a prime location on the upper level of Heathrow T5, and is predicted to serve approximately 90 covers, as well as offering a speedy takeaway option for travellers.

The site will also create between 80-100 new jobs for the terminal.

Why might you want in? Five Guys will offer options from first flight to last flight, with daytime and breakfast menu options to Heathrow passengers. The restaurant will feature exclusive elements tailored for Heathrow, including a dedicated Welcome Host to greet passengers and enhance the Five Guys experience.

Design enhancements will include an increased number of ordering kiosks in 6 different languages and travel-friendly elements to better serve the airport environment.

John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys UK, said:

“We are thrilled to be opening a brand new Five Guys at Heathrow Terminal 5 this year,”

“Having opened over 170 restaurants across the UK since we first launched back in 2013, the brand has established itself as one of the nation’s favourites for premium burgers. Now Five Guys is cementing itself at the UK’s busiest travel hub; we are excited to be providing our delicious menu to travellers as part of their journeys.”

Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow, said:

“We’re very excited to welcome Five Guys to Terminal 5 – becoming the first airport in the UK and Europe to host the beloved burger brand. This exciting addition reflects our commitment to making every journey better, as we continue to build an extraordinary airport fit for the future. We’re confident this new arrival will be a hit with our passengers.”

Cajun fries at 6 am? I’ve heard, seen and tasted worse ideas.

My first encounter with Five Guys was at an airport – Washington Dulles Airport to be precise (when I used to use United Airlines and Star Alliance flights primarily). That sold me on the brand, as if you’re able to deliver a decent burger and fries at an airport, you have to be doing something right.

With an exodus of British Airwaya Silivers this year (and possibly Golds over the next few years), no doubt for those who are aimlessly wandering around the terminal without a lounge to go, they’ll be seeking something different than the BA Breakfast.

And maybe, a decent burger or breakfast sandwich and cajun fries could seal it.

I can’t imagine the menu prices at that location.

I think the term “open thy wallet and scream” comes to mind…

If the serving sizes over there are anything like the way they are in the US, people will be lugging bags of leftover fries onto flights. Get ready for the smell of peanut oil in the cabin.
