In a move that could be a game changer, Eurowings is to deploy 2 by 2 Business Class Seating on its medium-haul services.

Introduced as “Premium BIZ Seat”, it is aimed at the longer medium-haul services the airline operates. Like a lot of European Airlines, Eurowings currently uses a 3-3 configuration for business class.
Premium BIZ Seat will instead introduce a premium 2-2 seating layout aboard an Airbus A320neo, with eight seats per aircraft.
Eurowings will use seats from Geven. These will feature an adjustable backrest, ergonomic design and generous upholstery, they offer significantly more comfort and privacy than is common in today’s medium-haul layouts.
Whilst there is no product identified, they appear to be a variant of the Comoda design.

The expanded Business Class offering will enter service in November 2025, initially on the non-stop Berlin-Dubai route.
The new seating concept will be available for booking during August. For those looking for it, the new seats can be found within the framework of Eurowings BIZclass. This means that Eurowings will offer several comfort zones on these medium-haul routes in the future: In addition to the Premium BIZ Seat (eight seats per aircraft), guests will continue to be able to choose from BIZclass (free middle seat and more legroom) as well as the economy fares SMART (optionally more legroom) and BASIC.

Jens Bischof, CEO Eurowings:
“With our new Premium BIZ Seat, we are offering business travellers and holidaymakers a completely new level of comfort on medium-haul routes. More privacy and a significantly increased feel-good ambience make longer flights noticeably more pleasant. In doing so, we are setting a new standard in our market segment and clearly positioning Eurowings as Europe’s leading value airline.”
Implications beyond Eurowings
The European Business Class market has been stagnant for years, with airlines largely maintaining their status quo, with nearly every airline deploying a 3-3 seating configuration. To add space, the middle seat is blocked, and a movable divider is used to create the business class cabin.
The flexibility means that the business class cabin can grow/shrink to demand, at the expense of Economy Class seats.
There is some change happening, with ITA breaking the mould with a three-class aircraft for its medium-haul routes.
There’s an interesting line in the release, with Eurowings market testing this product in the 2025/26 winter flight schedule. This will provide insights for other Lufthansa Group airlines with important insights for the future configuration of new aircraft fleets.
If this is followed through, there could well be a division within the single-alise fleets to support a shorthaul flying programme and a medium-haul flying programme, which would suit routes out to Africa and the Middle East.
This could get interesting quickly if the other major airline blocs (Air France-KLM and IAG) choose to respond with equivalent offerings.
