It’s been another week in the world of aviation, so it’s time to get to the headlines in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond

Economy Class and Beyond has not chosen to cover this event out of respect for the families of those involved. We send our thoughts and wishes to them at this time.
In the meantime, please stick to fact-checked and accredited news sources for news on this. Like any incident like this, there is plenty of speculation and not enough facts.
The Business of Aviation
Two airlines headed to the wall this week. One slowly, and one with a slam…
- Qantas to wind down Jetstar Asia – Seven weeks left to fly 3K before that code shuts down on the 31st July
- Silver Airways shuts down – Straight after it was brought out
Routes and Network
- Finnair eyes a return to Toronto in 2026 – Tickets live for this new service, operated by an A330
- ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group announce codeshares – More Codeshares for Lufthansa and ITA Airways to enjoy
Multi-Modal Connectivity
- FirstGroup sketches out a new route between Hereford and London – Another Lumo Route
- Eurostar looks to Frankfurt and Geneva for new International Routes – not for a few years yet. Firstly, they need to buy extra trains
New Aircraft news
- Uni Air signs for 19 ATR72-600s – I swear ATR put this out a week early.
Passenger Experience
- SkyTeam reopens its refreshed shared lounge in Vancouver, Canada – Somewhere to hang out in the international part of the airport before departure.
Loyalty
- Aer Lingus’s AerClub and Uber launch their Avios Earning Partnership – Some interesting wrinkles, especially if you are travelling using Uber in Ireland and the UK…
Next Week
Whilst there’s been more than a few clouds in the sky this week, the aviation industry is hoping for clearer views as they gather together at Le Bourget in France for the Salon international de l’aéronautique et de l’espace de Paris-Le Bourget… or as most of us know it, The Paris Air Show.
Whilst Economy Class and Beyond is not on the ground this show (alas, the real world is in play), we’ll have our airshow digests, covering orders and other interesting announcements we find along the way.
On top of that, we’ll have any other interesting news titbits that float past in the rush of Paris.
Until next week – happy landings!
