It’s a busy time for Hong Kong’s home airline, as Cathay Pacific commences operations on its latest long-haul route, operating to Munich.
The move comes after the launch of its seasonal flights to Rome on 5 June and ahead of its return to Brussels on 3 August. The new route operates four times a week between Hong Kong and Munich, with an Airbus A350-900 providing the lift between the two cities.
This features a three-class cabin (with Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class). We reviewed the business class seat on a medium-haul segment last year.

In Quotes
“We are very pleased to welcome Munich into our global network for the first time, offering customers a direct connection between Hong Kong and a key economic, manufacturing and transportation hub in Europe. Customers can explore Munich’s diverse blend of culture, art and innovation, or connect to a wide range of onward destinations in Europe through our codeshare partners.
“Meanwhile, customers travelling to Hong Kong can connect to the Cathay Group’s extensive passenger network via our home hub, which now covers 100 destinations worldwide. This global connectivity reinforces Hong Kong’s status as a leading international aviation hub and a premier gateway linking the Chinese Mainland and the world. As we grow and expand, we remain focused on adding more flights and destinations for our customers and providing them with a seamless journey.“
A busy summer ahead
After a few years in the doldrums, Cathay Pacific appears to be turning the corner and is returning to building both frequency and strengthening both its regional and long-haul networks, including returning to old haunts, now that traffic demands have stabilised to support them.
Like a lot of the routes, there is the long-term viability of it, and if there is enough demand to keep the route ongoing.
We’ll have to see how the Munich route does in the longer term, and if it can graduate to a daily service.
