Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is preparing to relaunch a route to somewhere it hasn’t been for 17 years – Mumbai, India.
The move comes as the airline works to expand its intercontinental network, strengthening ties between India and Scandinavia, with smooth transfers to Europe and North America.
The route will be a year-round operation, launching on 2nd June 2026. Planned operations are as follows:
SK969 DEPART CPH 13:00 ARRIVE BOM 01:30+1 SK970 DEPART BOM 06:00 ARRIVE CPH 11:45 Commences 2nd June 2026 from Copenhagen, 3rd June from Mumbai Operates Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday from Copenhagen Operates Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday from Mumbai Booked Equipment: Airbus A330 Subject to governmental approval
SAS will operate an Airbus A330-300 on this route, configured with 32 business class flat seats (based on the Thomson Vantage XL in a 1-2-1 setting), 56 SAS Plus Premium Economy Seats (based on the Collins MiQ seat in a 2-3-2) and 178 seats in SAS Go (economy class) in a traditional 2-4-2 formation.
The timings have been designed to meet and connect with transfers to and from major destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, and North America — including New York, Boston, and Toronto —

Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, said:
“India is a key global market — both in terms of growing demand and economic importance. With this new route, SAS contributes to strengthening Copenhagen’s role as a global hub while supporting increased connectivity between India and Northern Europe, as well as between India and North America,”
“Mumbai is a natural next step in our strategy to link Scandinavia with one of the world’s most important regions for business and leisure travel.”
Additional SkyTeam options between Europe and Mumbai
With SAS adding Copenhagen to Mumbai, it will add important connections across Europe, with each of the major SkyTeam hubs having a connection to India and onto North America (Air France at Paris-CDG, KLM at Schiphol, Virgin Atlantic at London-LHR and now SAS at Copenhagen).
That offers a lot of coverage and connections for travellers between North America, Europe and India.
It seems SAS is going in with confidence with this route launch, given that they will fly five days a week. Whilst not the golden daily service, it’s a major commitment to the city, as SAS seeks routes other than some of its more traditional networks.
It’ll be interesting to see if SAS can sustain and grow this route.
