Viasat and Aeromexico announced the installation of in-flight internet connectivity on Aeromexico’s E190 jets,

So far, six Aeromexico Embraer E190 aircraft are equipped with Viasat’s Wi-Fi technology, enabling customers to enjoy fast and reliable internet connectivity. Installation of Viasat’s in-flight Wi-Fi solution on the remaining 28 aircraft, totalling 34 E190s, is ongoing.

Completion of the installation is due by 2027 for the Aeromexico Connect fleet.

This will allow Aeromexico passengers to connect to Viasat’s global Ka-band network, providing high-speed satellite connectivity. They will be able to stream movies and television, watch live sports, access the internet, send emails, and connect to their social networks while onboard.

Aeromexico have chosen to deploy Viasat Amara – Viasat’s next-generation connectivity solution. For other airlines, Viasta’s products are available for all E-Jets customers worldwide, with Embraer able to offer solutions designed for each customer.

Andres Castañeda, Chief Digital and Customer Experience Officer & EVP at Aeromexico, said

“We are upgrading our Aeromexico Connect E190 fleet to deliver exceptional in-flight experiences on our short-haul routes. With Wi-Fi available on all our E190 aircraft by 2027, Aeromexico will be the first and only airline in Latin America to offer ad-supported free messaging across our entire network. This means our passengers can stay connected wherever they fly, with the option to purchase internet packages for enhanced connectivity.”

Don Buchman, SVP & GM, Commercial Aviation, Viasat, added:

“As global demand for in-flight connectivity skyrockets — with passengers increasingly expecting to stream movies and shows the way they do at home while 30,000 feet in the sky — we are thrilled to collaborate with Aeromexico and Embraer. Both companies value high-quality, fast, and reliable onboard Wi-Fi service to create an exceptional passenger experience,”

Carlos Naufel, President and CEO of Embraer Services & Support, concluded:

“Embraer is constantly working to improve the experience in its wide range of aircraft. Offering connectivity services on Aeromexico’s E-Jets fleet is an important step to provide more comfort to the airline’s customers,”

Connecting for the shorter missions

With a maximum range of 2,450 NM / 4,537 km, the Embraer E190 is a versatile aircraft, even after the introduction of the E190-E2, with airlines wanting to sweat their assets, as well as improve the passenger experience aboard their aircraft..

Given the range, you’ll be sitting in a seat on an E190 for up to 4 hours or so, so having options to entertain yourself with a high-quality internet solution is not a bad thing to have in flight.

Given that these aircraft operate in a regional function, it’s a welcome sign that the passengers on these aircraft will get a similar experience to larger aircraft, unifying the passenger experience.
