Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said:
“With growing demand for travel between India and Northern Europe, we are delighted to connect Mumbai to Copenhagen, marking IndiGo’s entry into the Scandinavian region. This expansion strengthens our presence in Europe, offering Copenhagen as a gateway to the Nordic region for Indian travellers. With every new international destination – Copenhagen being our 44th – we are inching closer to our vision of being a trusted global airline, giving wings to the nation, and increasingly to the world.”
More to come
Indigo is making some serious plays into its long-haul network as it prepares to expand further. Recently, the airline signed a codeshare agreement with Aegean Airlines of Greece, whilst setting out its first Airbus A321XLR routes to Athens as part of its launch plans, as the airline starts its long-haul routes for itself, rather than relying on leased equipment.
The airline has a lot of growth plans too, with 30 Airbus A350-900s and 69 Airbus A321XLRs on the way (as well as the leased long-haul aircraft from Norse Atlantic and Turkish Airlines, which the airline currently uses on its longer routes)
As the airline presses forward with its expansion, there are going to be lots of routes the airline’s team will examine and evaluate to see which are viable to operate.
Exciting times ahead for the airline.
