Scandinavian Airlines has signed a codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic as the airline deepens its commercial relationship.

As part of the agreement, SAS will place its ‘SK’ code on selected Virgin Atlantic flights from London Heathrow, providing SAS customers with access to destinations such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Dubai, and Malé in the Maldives.

SAS and Virgin Atlantic launched a bilateral codeshare agreement in October 2024.

The new codeshare flights will be available for booking from October 6 for travel beginning October 8.

The codeshare flights offer convenient travel times and are available for booking through SAS channels. Both SAS and Virgin Atlantic are planning to add further destinations in the future.

Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, said:

“This expanded codeshare with Virgin Atlantic strengthens SAS’ offering to both business and leisure travelers by opening up more options to popular destinations. By placing our code on Virgin Atlantic flights, we make it easier for our customers to connect seamlessly through London Heathrow and enjoy a smooth travel experience,”

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic, commented:

“We’re delighted to be deepening our partnership with SAS through our codeshare expansion, signalling our continued commitment to working with our fellow SkyTeam member. It means more customers can enjoy seamless connections through London Heathrow to our incredible destinations including Dubai, the Maldives and South Africa as well as enjoy the premium customer experience which Virgin Atlantic is famous for.”

More options

An interesting set of codeshares. With SAS placing its code on Virgin Atlantic flights that are notably not transatlantic destinations. Rather, they seem to be South Africa, the Maldives and Dubai – destinations which SAS don’t serve.

Thus, a codeshare on these routes seems to make sense to expand the reach of SAS by adding codes on flights.

For travellers, it provides further choices whilst keeping tickets on one, allowing ease of travel without worrying about collecting luggage or failing to meet check-in deadlines.
