AGEAN Airlines adds further ATR aircraft for its Olympic Air subisdary

AEGEAN Airlines, through its subsidiary Olympic Air, has welcomed a brand-new ATR 72-600 to its fleet, marking a significant step in its regional fleet renewal strategy.

But there’s more.

AEGEAN has also placed a direct order for two additional ATR 72-600s, scheduled for delivery in December 2026.

Operating turboprop services across domestic routes within Greece and nearby international destinations, Olympic Air currently flies a fleet of 15 ATR aircraft (12 ATR 72-600s and three ATR 42-600s).

Michalis Kouveliotis, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AEGEAN Airlines, commented:

“We are pleased to welcome the new ATR 72-600 to our fleet and anticipate the arrival of two more aircraft by December 2026. These additions reflect AEGEAN’s and Olympic Air’s ongoing commitment to fleet renewal, operational efficiency and sustainability. We remain confident that ATR’s latest-generation aircraft will enable us to further enhance connectivity across Greece, continuing to deliver high-quality service to our passengers, while reducing our environmental footprint.”

Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, Chief Executive Officer at ATR, added:

“AEGEAN Airlines and Olympic Air’s role in delivering accessible and inclusive connectivity throughout Greece is commendable. The ATR 72-600 is ideally suited to their regional network, offering unmatched fuel efficiency and reliability. Its low operating costs and minimal environmental impact make it the perfect aircraft for maintaining profitable operations on low-density routes, especially in winter when air travel becomes a lifeline for island communities. This partnership reflects our shared vision for a truly essential and profitable regional aviation landscape.”

Growing the regional fleet

Apart from the existing ATR fleet, Olympic Air also has two De Havland Dash8-100 aircraft in its regional fleet, using them to ferry both tourists and locals on flights, whilst keeping those connections open at a lower cost base than could be achieved by a turbojet-powered aircraft.

For ATR, it’s another win with an existing customer to expand its operations as well as build more aircraft, as it continues to make its impact in the 76-seater market.

Those wins are going to be important, as ATR seeks to crack the nut that is the North American market.
