Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (18th October)

18/10/2025 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

It’s that time of the week again, when I try to make some sense of what I’ve written, whilst I work through jetlag and the joy of a 1000 other things.

It must be time for Last Week at Econoy Class and Beyond

Millenium Park - Chicago.

Yes. I’ve finally made it out of the United Kingdom for the first time since April. Hello from the city of Chicago – Millennium Park and Cloud Gate.

New Aircraft News

  • TrueNoord orders 20 new Embraer E-Jets – More aircraft off to a lessor
  • Discover Airlines to add Airbus A350s to its fleet, with plans for 40 aircraft in its entire fleet – Fleet simplification? The Lufthansa way, Natürlich.
  • Abra Group adds 57 Airbus aircraft for Avianca, Gol and Wamos – But where to deploy them… that’s the question
  • IndiGo adds a further 30 Airbus A350 aircraft – Up to 60 in the backlog

Loyalty

  • Cathay Group to update their frequent flyer programme, with full changes starting 2027 – More attractive at the bottom, more challenging at the top

Trains

  • Greater Anglia railway transfers back to government ownership – 50% of UK trains now under government control
  • Chiltern Railways unveils its Mark 5A rolling stock – That’s the press launch. We’ve got a lot more to go before Joe Public can ride on them

Pretty Pictures

  • Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A320neo lining up for departure from Stockholm Arlanda

Next Week

I’m heading up route later this week after a well-earned break (and to be honest, there have been nice disconnect points over the past few days), so I’m slowly building the stories of this trip, as well as ducking and diving around Chicago.

After all, sometimes we have to learn How Not to be Seen.

As we head into Monday/Tuesday, I’m taking a little writing break (unless something reasonably big breaks, as I’m intending to have a little break between holiday and flying home), so I’ll be resuming publishing on Wednesday (all things being equal…),

So until then, Happy Landings!
