Aer Lingus ties up with Tesco Ireland to allow Avios conversions

In the dim and distant past, one could convert Tesco Clubcard points into Avios. That’s in the past for the United Kingdom, but for those with Irish Clubcards, a new partnership has been announced.

Aer Lingus and Tesco Ireland have unveiled a new partnership that offers AerClub members the opportunity to turn their Tesco Clubcard vouchers into Avios.

Tesco Clubcard members can use the retailer’s Reward Partner programme to convert Clubcard vouchers into Avios, the rewards currency of Aer Lingus’ loyalty programme, AerClub. These Avios can then be redeemed on Aer Lingus flights, upgrades, hotel stays, car hire, and more, making it easier than ever to turn groceries into getaways.

From next week, Tesco will issue Clubcard vouchers to almost one million Clubcard members. Every €2.50 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be converted into 600 Avios, turning everyday spending into a memorable travel moment.

To begin collecting Avios with your Tesco Clubcard, all you need to do is make sure you have your AerClub membership number when you are exchanging your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Avios in the Tesco app or at Tesco.ie/clubcard/reward-partners.

Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer, said:

“As we approach the 10th anniversary of AerClub, we’re more committed than ever to making the programme even more rewarding for our loyal members.

“Through our new partnership with Tesco Ireland, members can convert Clubcard vouchers into Avios, allowing them to make significant savings on travel experiences. In real terms, this means a stroll down the aisles of Tesco brings you one step closer to the sun-soaked isles of Spain. It’s a simple, rewarding way to make everyday shopping go the extra mile.”

Suzanne Quinn, Tesco Ireland Customer Director, said:

“We are always looking for exciting new ways we can reward customers for shopping with Tesco, and what better way to do it than to team up with Aer Lingus and Avios. In our next Clubcard statement we’ll be giving back over €7.5 million in vouchers to our loyal customers – converted into Avios that’s enough for 450,000 people to fly one way to Paris! Clubcard vouchers last for two years and can be found in the tesco.ie app, so vouchers already issued can be used for this amazing new Reward too.”

Rob McDonald, IAG Loyalty’s Chief Commercial Officer, said:

“As the brand behind the loyalty currency Avios, we are dedicated to offering members the most rewarding experiences, allowing them to turn their everyday into their next holiday.

“Thanks to this landmark announcement with Tesco Ireland, Aer Club members can now benefit from even more ways to collect and redeem Avios, underscoring our dedication to building one of the world’s most connected and rewarding loyalty network.”

Every Little Helps

With opportunities to earn Avios a little more restricted in Ireland, being able to earn Avios on your day-to-day shopping is always a welcome thing, especially since the partnership with SuperValu has ended.

With 183 branches, there’s a good chance to rack up vouchers (even if there are fewer branches than SuperValu).

Whilst I wouldn’t go out of my way hunting for Tesco Ireland (given it’s the classic €2.50 for 600 points), if you’re heading to the supermarket, an AerClub member, and your nearest shop is a Tesco, there can be value to be extracted.
