If you’re planning to travel from Central London to Heathrow Airport this weekend, allow extra time for your journey.
Why?
The Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express will not operate this weekend.
What’s going on?
There is engineering work on the line between Hayes and Harlington and Heathrow Terminals this weekend, requiring the line to be shut. No trains will operate to/from Heathrow Airport.
What is operating?
Elizabeth line:
- No trains will run to/from Heathrow Airport.
- Services between Shenfield and London Paddington (and beyond) will run between Shenfield and London Liverpool Street (high level) only.
- Services between Abbey Wood and London Paddington (and beyond) will not run.
- There will be an amended and reduced service between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington / Maidenhead / Reading. Please note that trains will run to/from the high level of London Paddington station.
- On Sunday, until 07:00, trains will only run between Ealing Broadway and Hayes & Harlington / Maidenhead / Reading.
Heathrow Express:
- There will be no Heathrow Express service.
What are my alternatives?
For those who need to transit between Central London and Heathrow, your best bet is to use the Piccadilly Line, which operates between Heathrow Terminal 4, Terminal 5, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 to Earls Court, Piccadilly Circus, Kings Cross and Cockfosters.
If you’re feeling spicy, you could try taking an Elizabeth Line service to Hayes and Harlington and catching a Superloop Bus SL9 to Heathrow Central Bus Station or 350 to Terminal 5. Alternatively, National Express have coach services if you enjoy sitting in London traffic.
Heathrow Airport has published a guide for those travelling to the airport. It’s worth a read at https://www.heathrow.com/content/dam/heathrow/web/common/documents/transport/Rail-disruption-15-16-Nov.pdf.
Also, use the TfL Travel Planner at https://tfl.gov.uk/. You’re going to need it for your revised travel plans.
Allow Extra time for your Journey.
It goes without saying that journey times are going to be extended this weekend, with a 50-minute journey between Central London and Heathrow on the Piccadilly Line.
And there will be no way around it, with the line between Heathrow and Hayes and Harlington.
Combined with Storm Claudia, this could be one weekend to stay at home and stay dry…
