Blue Islands suspends flights and operations

15/11/2025 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

Blue Islands, a regional airline based in Jersey, has suspended operations.

Blue Islands Suspends Services

According to the Channel Islands operator, the airline has suspended trading as of the 14th November 2025. All future flights operated by Blue Islands have been cancelled. Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport unless they have made alternative travel arrangements.

In terms of future travel bookings, they advise the following:

  • For bookings made directly with Blue Islands, please contact your bank or provider of the payment card used to make the booking
  • For bookings made through our codeshare partner Aurigny but travelling on a Blue Islands flight, please contact Aurigny directly – some flights may still be operating.
  • For bookings made through a travel agent or holiday company, please contact the company through whom you booked for advice and guidance.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has updated its site covering the suspension of services. They advise checking passengers to make alternative travel arrangements as per the ones above. Further information is available on the Blue Islands website.

The Government of Jersey and Jersey Airport have released major advice for both travellers and staff. In particular:

Blue Islands passengers outside Jersey, wishing to return in the next seven days (Friday 14 November – Friday 21 November)

  • Passengers should identify the nearest and best travel alternative for themselves (whether by air or sea), and rebook with another provider.
  • There are enough spare seats with British Airways and easyJet over the next 72 hours (14-16 November) from London Heathrow and London Gatwick, to transport everyone who had a flight booked back to Jersey from the UK with Blue Islands. Further options exist from London Luton, Birmingham, and Manchester Airports.
  • Ferry services from Portsmouth with DFDS are available on Saturday, 15 November and Monday, 17 November.

  • Passengers should rebook themselves onto an alternative air or sea service and contact their travel insurance provider.

Fleet and Network

At the time of the airline ceasing trading, Blue Islands operated four ATR72-500 and one ATR72-600 in its fleet, with its primary flights from Guernsey and Jersey Airports to Bristol, East Midlands Airport, Exeter and Southampton, with seasonal services to Ireland, France and Italy and charters to the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The company provided a fly-rail link to London via Southampton.

Regional Aviation continues to suffer.

With the recent collapse of Eastern Airways, the choices are thinning out rapidly for regional carriers in the UK, with Loganair, Emerald Airways (as Aer Lingus Regional) and Aurigny… and that’s it.

Guernsey is lightly affected by this change, with Aurigny providing coverage. However, Jersey is hit harder with the loss of Blue Islands and the regional connectivity, with passengers needing to travel onwards to London, Birmingham and Manchester (although the market for Jersey seems a little more resilient to the larger destinations).

Whilst the rail sector is making quite valid inroads on domestic traffic, this puts traffic involving water at risk – especially the thinner regional routes that operate not via London.

And I know people do go into shock when I say this – there is life beyond London.

With yet another regional carrier falling, there may need to be an intervention to prop up parts of the market.
