For those who need to travel between Madrid and Newark, NJ (for New York), there’s good news, with Iberia planning to spin up a new route for the Summer 2026 timetable.
The new service will operate daily from 29th March 2026, operating between Madrid and Newark Liberty International Airport with a daily service.
This new flight will complement the existing two daily frequencies the airline already operates to John F. Kennedy International Airport, with three flights a day serving the region.
The new service will operate as the late-evening service, allowing for a business day in either city before heading to the airport for a night flight.
Planned operations are as follows:
IB327 DEAPRT MAD 19:35 ARRIVE EWR 22:25 IB328 DEPART EWR 23:55 ARRIVE MAD 13:20+1 Commences 29th March 2026 Operates Daily Booked Equipment: Iberia Airbus A321XLR
Ibera’s Airbus A321XLR has a two-class configuration featuring Business and Economy class seating, with 182 seats in the cabin. During Summer 2026, Iberia will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York—40% more than in 2025, with 10 destinations served between Madrid and North America.
Iberia is partnered with British Airways, Finnair and American Airlines through its North Atlantic joint business agreement to offer further choice to its passengers.

María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Chief Commercial, Network Development and Alliances Officer, said:
“Our new flight to Newark is a tangible example of how Iberia is bringing our Flight Plan 2030 to life — a roadmap designed to consolidate our position as the leader in connectivity between Europe and the Americas.
The addition of Newark not only strengthens our presence in New York with a third daily frequency but also expands options for our customers by offering greater flexibility in schedules and fares, along with the advantages of multi-frequency service.
Newark’s proximity to Manhattan makes it an excellent choice for the corporate market. Furthermore, diversifying between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark allows us to optimize operations and better adapt to market needs, reinforcing our position along one of the most strategic corridors across the Atlantic,”
An interesting, if boring choice.
North America remains a go-to destination for European careers, and adding Newark into the mix is interesting, as the airline rounds out its New York and region coverage.
Normally, for a trunk route like this, you’d expect an A330 to be used. However, given the timings of the flight, with it departing in the evening from Madrid and departing just before midnight from Newark, the A321XLR could well be the right choice, depending on the passenger loads.
Of course, if the route is successful, it gives Iberia the chance to scale it to a larger aircraft at a later point.
For passengers who need to arrive late and are heading to the Big Apple, it should provide a convenient option. Just remember, if you’re taking the train from Newark to New York Penn Station, check the timetable first.
Otherwise, prepare to pay out for a Taxi/Uber/Lyft ride.
